Individual Counselling in Papamoa & Tauranga & Online
Individual counselling offers a confidential and supportive space where you don't have to figure everything out on your own.
You may be navigating anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, trauma, a major life transition, or simply a sense that something isn't quite right.
Whatever brings you here, I offer you a confidential space to slow things down, make sense of what you're experiencing, and explore what you want to be different. You don't need to have everything figured out before you come. We can start with what's happening for you now and work from there.
My approach is collaborative. I don't believe my role is to tell you what you should do. Instead, I offer a space where we can become curious together—about your experiences, your relationships, the patterns you've developed, and what truly matters to you. From there, we can begin exploring what meaningful change might look like for you.
No two people are the same, and neither is the counselling process. I tailor my approach to your individual needs, drawing on different therapeutic approaches while working at a pace that feels right for you.
Change is rarely straightforward. We often find ourselves repeating patterns we wish we could break. Sometimes we need the safety to look at our experiences differently. Sometimes we need space to process difficult emotions. Other times we need to reconnect with what our body is telling us before change can begin.
Above all, I aim to create a counselling relationship where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. My hope is that counselling becomes a place where you can bring all parts of yourself without fear of judgement, allowing us to explore your experiences together and discover new possibilities for moving forward.

My Therapeutic Approach With Individuals
I take an integrative approach, drawing on different therapeutic approaches depending on what feels most useful for you. I don't believe counselling should be about fitting you into a particular model or applying techniques for the sake of it.
Some approaches help us understand patterns in relationships and attachment. Others can help with thoughts, emotions, behaviour or the ways your nervous system responds to stress. We can explore these together and find an approach that fits your needs and goals.
My practice is informed by:
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Person-Centred Therapy
Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Attachment Theory
Trauma-informed practices
Strength-based approaches
60-minute session: $150
Sessions are held in Papamoa, with online counselling also available.
If you're unsure whether counselling is the right fit for you, I offer a free 10-minute confidential phone call. It's an opportunity to ask questions, talk about what you're looking for, and see whether working together feels right.
I am a Provisional Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) and practise in accordance with the NZAC Code of Ethics while receiving regular professional supervision to support safe and ethical practice.

-
The first session is primarily about getting to know each other and understanding what has brought you to counselling. We'll talk about what's happening for you, what you'd like support with and what you hope might change.
You don't need to have a clear goal or know exactly what to say. We can start wherever feels most comfortable for you.
-
You don't need to be in crisis or have a specific diagnosis to come to counselling. Sometimes people seek support because they're struggling with something specific, while others simply feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure about what comes next.
If something is affecting your wellbeing, relationships or sense of connection with yourself, counselling may provide a useful space to explore what's going on.
If you're unsure, I also offer a free 10-minute confidential phone call. This gives us an opportunity to talk briefly about what you're looking for and whether counselling feels like the right fit.
-
There's no fixed number of sessions. Some people come for a small number of focused sessions, while others find it helpful to continue for longer.
We'll regularly check in about how counselling is going and whether it continues to feel useful for you. The aim isn't to keep you in counselling unnecessarily, but to support you for as long as it feels beneficial.
-
Sessions are usually weekly or fortnightly, depending on what feels right for you and the kind of support you're looking for.
Once we've had our initial session, you'll have access to my online booking calendar. This means you can choose the day and time that works best for you and book your sessions directly, without needing to contact me each time.
If your circumstances change or you'd like to adjust how often we meet, we can always discuss what works best for you
-
You can bring whatever feels important to you. This might include anxiety, stress, relationships, self-esteem, life changes, difficult emotions, past experiences, feeling stuck or simply a sense that something isn't right.
You don't need to know whether something is "big enough" to talk about. If it's affecting you, it's worth exploring.
-
What you share in counselling is treated with respect and confidentiality, within the usual professional and legal limits of confidentiality.
If you have questions about confidentiality or what happens to the information you share, you're welcome to ask at any time.

-
Absolutely. You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis, a clear goal or a list of things to work on.
Sometimes the first step is simply having a space to talk about what's been happening and begin making sense of it. We can work out together what might be helpful from there.
